Position Title:            Counselor, High School (9th, 10th, 11th , or 12th grades)

Reports to:               High School Principal

FLSA Designation:      Exempt

Calendar:                 9 month, plus 10 extra days

 

SUMMARY:    To provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades 9-12.  To provide activities to meet the needs of their assigned case-load; consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provide support to other high school educational programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    Other duties may be assigned by supervisor.

 

  • Counsels groups or individual students through the development of education and career plans
  • Counsels small groups and individual students with problems; refer severe problems to appropriate community resources
  • Consults with teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students
  • Evaluates and revises the building counseling program
  • Conducts counseling activities in the classroom in conjunction with administration and teachers
  • Consults with teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling learning activities into the regular education curricula
  • Responds to crisis situations when appropriate
  • Proctors PLAN, ACT, PSAT or other exams an needed
  • Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team
  • Maintains consistent and punctual attendance
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or administrator

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Master’s Degree in Counseling 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate with counseling endorsement

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents, as well as communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
