Position Title: School Nurse

Reports to: Site Principal/Director of Teaching and Learning

FLSA Designation: Exempt

Calendar: 9 Month

 

SUMMARY: The school nurse possesses the critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to assess the nursing/health care needs of students and staff.  The school nurse promotes the optimum health of students to achieve their individualized educational goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree or diploma in nursing

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Current Nursing License from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and Valid Oklahoma School Nurse Certificate.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and new treatment modalities to nursing practice; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and the community; ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board policies.

“While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, or sit. The employee will occasionally be required to reach forward or above the head more than the average person will.  Ability to visit various building throughout the district.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and push up to 90 pounds, such as students in wheelchairs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.”
